On this page I am not speaking of peace as in, “War and Peace.” I am speaking of personal peace. The kind of peace that comes from sitting in the shade and watching the wind blow in the branches of a tree or listening to the flow of water over pebbles and rocks in a creek. Alone and at peace. Even sitting outdoors with a friend or two and speaking of the wonders of our planet, one another, or just shooting the breeze.
I am speaking of the kind of peace still available but not if we are on smart phones or computers. Being one with the planet and letting the electronics fall away, as we take time to breathe and assess where in this bloody world we are. The kind or peace I had as a child, which I took for granted, as peace was the way it should be. It was always there when we went outside just to play. Of course, as an adult, and an old adult at that, I recall that peace and I sometimes hug it quite closely when things are bad or when I get heartily sick of electronics. It is for this reason that I took up walking around twelve years ago. I went seeking, not my childhood, that is long gone, but peace from a crackling mind tuned to electronics. Peace from the news forcing us to deal with everyone elses’ problems from politics to thievery, to murder.
In my case I often pray to God while I walk and give thanks that I came thorugh Vietnam, have a loving wife and three strong children, all of whom make their way in this world quite nicely. To give thanks is to acknowledge the peace that God gives if we are not dealing with others or ourselves. Following God grants peace which is why so many die for their beliefs. We are not alive without God and that is not an abstract that is truth incarnate. We have but to find it and that path of exploration is seen and encouraged by Him. In essence, this is our purpose and all other slings and arrows are but fluff and distraction from that path we should be on.
Your beliefs are yours and your beliefs are also your responsibility. If you err in what you believe, the world, people, money, then you reap what you have sown. You don’t find peace in electronics, computers, social media, or a lousy neighbor or friend who is always needing your support. You cannot support anyone until you find peace, this is what I am driving at, and peace comes from only one source.
Sit by a stream and try to understand that what you are doing is listening to a thing that God made for us. Acknowledgement of God is what opens the door to your peaceful life. Without God, we are but walking corpses. Life begins with belief in more than what we are and He awaits you if only you will see the truth of this world. As it is, this world is temporary for now and this includes you and I. There is much more than we are not allowed to see until we prove ourselves to Him. This is the way forward to peace as peace comes only from God. Open your eyes and mind.
