Carbon-14. A Date With Skepticism.

So, it would seem that science has found their good ol’ Go-To: Carbon-14 dating. I guess it is a good thing to know how old organics are? Seems they can be older than dirt. I suppose that geology is dated by the same people who rely on Carbon14 dates? I haven’t been in a science class for some fifty-five years so there is an excellent chance that I am far off the mark here. Or, am I?

It is just that I think Carbon-14 might be like electricity to the first humans, god-like. Reliance on Carbon-14 seems ubiquitous now. I can’ t say this is right nor wrong but I know the history of science from Copernicus through Einstein. Not that I remember all of it but, were there a gun to my head I might give my memory a quick jolt. A Way Back Machine type of jolt!

I bring all this up as the bible tells us, some say, that Earth is around 6000 years old. I think this is too late for all that we find in the environment of our planet, thanks to geology, which was one of my college studies. Rocks seem to be pretty dad-gummed old to me. Older, certainly, than 6000 years. The truth of the matter is that no number or date is given for Adam and Eve’s arrival in the Garden of Eden. Maybe it was 6000 years, maybe one farthing further back.

The point I am making is that we go with our gut when it comes to time and space, the universe, or God’s will. I often ask people what one day for God is? How many hours, or millennia, is one day for God. Twenty-four hours works for us as this is how God made our planet with sun and moon. He, however, is not subject to time in any way which is why we have the word: eternal or, for that matter, infinity.

I am not able to take a stand either way but skepticism keeps me honest. I believe entirely in God, Jesus and the universe (except that the universe and this planet are not ours; they’re Gods and, we are short- lived for a reason.) Can you imagine the mischief we could do were we eternal? To start this train of thought we only need to consider the wisdom of . . . NUKES! Imagine that. Nah, we ain’t ready for eternal. Not by a lightyear or, probably, far less.
